SHALOM: THE HEAVENLY PEACE OF GOD!
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).
Today happens to be the International Day of Peace; a day set aside worldwide by the United Nations Organization to celebrate the importance of peace for the existence of mankind in life. The importance of peace can never be over emphasized in life. The Bible says in the opening text that peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Of course, every Christian should endeavor to take note of the fact that God wants him to constantly experience shalom which is the heavenly peace of God in life. The absolute peace of God is real, contagious and permanent in life forever.
The heavenly peace of God is referred to as, “Shalom” in Hebrew’s language. This is the peace of God that surpasses human’s mystery and understanding in life. That is why the Bible says in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Therefore, shalom which is the heavenly peace of God surpasses all human understandings and guards the heart of a Christian towards perfection in Christ Jesus. It can never be compared to anything else in life forever.
The Bible illustrated to us vividly that Jesus Christ is shalom; the heavenly peace of God in life. That is the reason why the Bible tells us in Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. In fact, Jesus Christ who is the everlasting Prince of Peace is indeed our eternal Shalom in life. Hence, Jesus Christ is the synonym of shalom in a Christian’s life perspective. A life without Jesus Christ is of course a life frustrating, empty and full of vanity forever. Happy International Day of peace!
