DAY 21 SUNDAY: JUNE 2020

THE DUTY OF A GODLY FATHER!

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her (Ephesians 5:25).

Today happens to be Father’s Day; a day set aside worldwide to celebrate the dignity of fatherhood in life. The role of a father in the home can never be over emphasized in life. Without godly fathers, the society will suffer a great set back in life. The father is the head of the home in life. As the head, he is expected to love his wife and bring up his children in the way and fear of the Lord in life. It is his duty to provide and care for the needs of his family in life. Of course, every Christian should endeavor to take note of the fact that the father is the head of the home in life. A responsible Christian father is highly expected to lead his family by setting good examples for others to follow with the fear of the Lord in life forever.

The father, who is the head of the home, has a duty to bring up his children in the fear and way of the Lord in life. That is why the Bible says in Ephesians 6:4, “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Therefore, it is the duty of the father to train and discipline his children in the way and fear of the Lord in life. The training of children should be total and collective; hence, the father and the mother are expected to join hands together collectively in bringing up their children in the way and fear of the Lord in life. Indeed, a godly father is expected to lay down a good legacy for the children in life and ministry forever.

Also, it is the duty of the father to become the high priest of the home in life. He is expected to stand at the gap between God and his family in life. That is the reason why the Bible tells us about Job in Job 1:5, “…he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, ‘It may be that my sons have sinned and curse God in their hearts.’ Thus Job did regularly.” In fact, the father is both the physical and spiritual head of the home before God in life. Hence, a godly father should constantly as a matter of necessity offer his life as a burnt offering to the family in life forever. Happy Father’s Day!

Daily Tip: Every father has a great duty in his home and family; therefore, he should learn to put his trust and confidence in the Lord. With God on his side, everything is possible in life forever. Shalom!

Golden Text: Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).
