DO NOT DESTROY YOUR CHARACTER IN LIFE!
Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity and the excellency of power. Unstable as water, you shall not excel, because you went up to your father’s bed; then you defiled it- he went up to my couch (Genesis 49:3-4).
A Christian is expected to build his character in the Lord in life. Do not destroy your character because of fleshly desires in life. The Bible says in the opening text that Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity and the excellency of power. Unstable as water, you shall not excel, because you went up to your father’s bed; then you defiled it- he went up to my couch. Of course, every Christian should endeavor to take note of the fact that God indeed does not want him to destroy his character in life. A Christian’s character in the Lord is a great legacy which he needs to preserve for the sake of posterity in life forever.
The Bible gave us a vivid account of a young man in the province of Babylon, whose name was Daniel in life. He was a man who built his character in the Lord by distinguishing himself above all others in life. That is why the Bible says in Daniel 6:3, “Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.” Therefore, a life that is absolutely built in God’s character automatically becomes excellent in nature for life. It was indeed the character of Daniel that distinguished him above all others and made him to stand out excellently in the land of Babylon in life forever.
In fact, it is your character that makes your personality in life. When your character is found wanting, it destroys your reputation in life. The potent way to build your character is through meditation and obedience to God’s Word in life. That is the reason why the Bible says in Acts 20:32, “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” In fact, every Christian should endeavor to take note of the fact that it is the Word of God that builds his character in the Lord with the test of time through the power of the Holy Spirit in life forever.
Daily Tip: A Christian should not destroy his character on the altar of fleshly desires and momentary gains. Be warned in life forever. Shalom!
