DAY 3 SUNDAY: MAY 2020

YOUR NAME IS VERY IMPORTANT TO GOD!

A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold (Proverbs 22:1).

A Christian’s name is very important to God and to himself in life. A Christian is not supposed to bear evil names because name is very essential in life. It is imperative that you know the meaning of the names you are giving to your children because name matters to God and to the destiny of children in life. The Bible says in the opening text that a good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold. Of course, every Christian should endeavor to take note of the fact that a good name is very important to God and humanity in life. Naming a child as a Christian should be done prayerfully being guided by the Holy Spirit because names have both physical and spiritual connotations even in the realm of the spirit in life forever.

The Bible gave us a vivid case study of the life of Jacob. The name of Jacob means, “Deceiver or fraudster.” In fact, because of the negative impact of his name, Jacob found himself living a life in fulfillment of his name until God decided to intervene thus, “And He said, ‘Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed” (Genesis 32:28). Therefore, if not for the intervention of God by changing the name of Jacob to Israel, he would have died in deceit for life. Until one’s name prevails in the spirit realm, he can never experience breakthroughs in the physical realm of life. Indeed, every Christian is expected to take note of the fact that the spiritual realm controls the physical realm we live in forever.

In the New Testament, we have another vivid case study of the life of Peter. Indeed, before his name was changed to Peter by Jesus Christ (Mark 3:16); his name was formally known and addressed as Simon meaning, “A reed that is easily broken or swayed by the wind.” This name affected his life negatively by living an unstable life until Jesus Christ decided to intervene by changing his name to Peter which means, “Rock.” Of course, whenever a Christian’s name dominates in the spiritual realm, it automatically rules in the physical realm in life. In fact, every Christian should take note of the fact that a good name attracts favor and divine blessings into one’s life forever.

Daily Tip: A Christian should never for any reason bear an evil or negative name because the meaning of your name matters so much to God and to your destiny in life forever. Shalom!

Golden Text: No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations (Genesis 17:5).
