LEARN TO ESTEEM LEADERS IN AUTHORITY!
And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves (1Thessalonians 5:12-13).
The word, “Esteem” simply means respect, honor and reverence given to someone who deserves it in life. Leaders in places of authority deserve respect, honor and reverence from their followers in life. The Bible says in the opening text that we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves. Of course, every Christian should endeavor to take note of the fact that God indeed wants him to esteem leaders of authority in life forever.
Those that God has placed in authority to rule over His vineyard deserve double honor; they should be well respected and esteemed in life. That is why the Bible says in 1 Timothy 5:17, “Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.” Therefore, a leader with the fear of God in life is indeed worthy of double honor and respect from his followers. A Christian should never cultivate the habit of running down his leaders of authority in life. He should learn to criticize constructively with respect and honor to the glory of God in life forever.
The reason why we need to esteem our leaders is because God has placed them in authority to rule and lead us accordingly in life. That is the reason why the Bible says in Romans 13:1, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” In fact, there is absolutely no authority that exists in life without God’s approval and divine mandate in life. Whenever a Christian esteems leaders in authority, directly or indirectly he is obeying God’s injunctions in the Bible in life forever.
Daily Tip: A Christian who learns to esteem his leaders in authority is absolutely obeying God’s injunctions in the Bible in life forever. Shalom!
Golden Text: Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem (Philippians 2:29).
