LEARN TO RESPECT AUTHORITY!
Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” (Jude 1:8-9).
Christians should learn to respect authority. No authority can exist without God’s permissive will. Therefore, any authority that exists is constituted by God’s power of supremacy. In the opening text, the writer was referring to the dreamers that defile the flesh; they reject authority and speak evil against those in authority. Even the archangel Michael could not contend with the devil but only rebuke him in the Name of the Lord. Every Christian should learn to respect authority that had been constituted by the permissive will of God.
Archangel Michael could not contend with Satan with reviling accusation when they disputed about the body of Moses because Satan was in a higher authority. The only weapon he could use against Satan was to rebuke him in the Name of the Lord. As Christians, we should be very careful not to disrespect authority and those who are in authority. When you fail to respect authority, you become a rebel and a defiant. It is the duty of every Christian to respect authority in the Name of the Lord.
We should know that God constituted authority for a purpose; that purpose is to enthrone sanity and discipline into the society. That is the reason why Apostle Paul said in Romans 13:2, “Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.” When you resist authority, directly or indirectly you are resisting God who constituted that authority. A Christian should never bring judgment upon himself as a result of being rude and disobedient.
Daily Tip: When you learn to respect authority, you are obeying God who is the Author and Founder of every authority. Shalom!
Golden Text: Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God (Romans 13:1).
