And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him (Luke 15:20).

Today happens to be Nigeria Independence Day; a day set aside annually by Nigerians irrespective of locations in the world to celebrate their total freedom from the British Colonial Rule in 1960. In the opening text, when you read the whole parable from Luke 15:11-32; you will see the wonderful story that demonstrates God’s unreserved love for mankind. The story further demonstrates the worst and the wisest decisions man can ever make in life. It is also the story of God’s agape love for man.

In fact, every one of us has in one time taken the worst decision just like the prodigal son. That is why the Bible tells us in Isaiah 53:6, “All we like sheep gone astray; we have turned, everyone, to his own way…” The prodigal son wanted independence outside his father’s wish, jurisdiction and control. As a result, he became a slave to Satan, forces of nature and the powers of darkness. He went astray into the whole wide-world.

Independence without Jesus Christ leads to crisis and slavery. Thank God that the prodigal son did not die in slavery and go to hell; but became wise and took the wisest decision. That is the decision of reconciliation which everyone needs to take in life. That is the reason why the Bible tells us, “Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ…” (2 Corinthians 5:18).God in His love and compassion is inviting everyone for reconciliation that will lead to eternal life. Happy Independence Day’s Celebration to all Nigerians! Happy New Month!

Daily Tip: Celebrating independence without Jesus Christ is slavery, doom and destruction in the midst of crisis in life. Shalom!
