DAY 28 FRIDAY: SEPTEMBER 2018

CONTROL YOUR TONGUE!

For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in Word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body (James 3:2).

The tongue is one of the smallest organs in the human body which is used in connection to the expression of speech. In the opening text, the Bible says that anyone who does not stumble in Word is a perfect man. Anyone who does not stumble in Word should be able to control his tongue. The book of James describes tongue as a fire, a world of iniquity that sets among our members by defiling the whole body. It also sets on fire the course of nature and by hell (James 3:6). The ability to control the tongue makes one wise and perfect.

The Bible tells us that the power of life and death is in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Whoever that is able to control his tongue by not speaking carelessly is wise, and such a person will definitely find life. Whoever fails to control his tongue but speaks carelessly is a fool, and such a person will definitely find death. No wonder Jesus Christ says in Matthew 12:37, “For by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned.” A wise man has the ability to control his tongue; he knows when to speak, what to say and when to be silent. Therefore, every Christian is expected to be in control of his tongue always.

The tongue can also put one into bondage when it is misused and abused. That is the reason one has to be very careful of what it says and control his tongue. That is why the Bible tells us in Proverbs 6:2, “You are snared by the words of your mouth; you are taken by the words of your mouth.” Sometimes, we carelessly utter words that snare and put us in bondage; and then we shift the blame to the devil or the enemies around us. A Christian should be wise by controlling his tongue in order to grow into the state of perfection.

Daily Tip: Anyone who is able to control his tongue is wise, self-controlled and disciplined. Shalom!

Golden Text: But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the Day of Judgment (Matthew 12:36).
