WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.” And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel: for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed” (Genesis 32:26-28).
Your name matters so much physically and spiritually. The meaning of your name should never contradict God’s Word. If as a Christian, you have not known the meaning of your name, kindly go and find out because your destiny is tied to your name physically and spiritually. We see this in the life of Simon Peter who happens to be Jesus Christ’s arch-disciple. Of course, his name was Simon which means, “Reed that is easily swayed in the wind.” But Jesus Christ changed his name to Peter which means, “A stone that is founded on a rock.” Of course, name has both physical and spiritual connotations.
In fact from the opening text, Jacob had an encounter with the Lord that changed his entire destiny. Jacob wrestled with a strange Man and said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” (Genesis 32:26). The Man asked him, “What is your name?” He answered, Jacob which means, “A Swindler, deceiver, fraudster or trickster.” The strange Man said to Jacob, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel: for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed” (Genesis 32:28). Here, Jacob discovered and recovered his destiny because of the change of name. Therefore, name is absolutely important to destiny fulfilment in life.
Again, Abraham had a similar experience. Indeed, for many years he had been bearing the name: Abram, which means, “Exalted father.” But when God wanted to fulfill His covenant with him; He changed his name from Abram to Abraham which means, “The father of many nations” (Genesis 17:5). It is very important and necessary that you know the meaning of your name. If it does not tally and correspond with God’s destiny in your life, there is need to prayerfully change it whether it is the first, last or surname. The meaning of your name matters so much in the kingdom of God. It also matters in the fulfilment of your destiny in life.
Daily Tip: Never you ignore the meaning of your name because your name is tied to your destiny both physically and spiritually. Shalom!
Golden Text: Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name (Genesis 17:15).
