Then the people rejoiced, for they had offered willingly, because with a loyal heart they had offered willingly to the Lord; and King David also rejoiced greatly (1 Chronicles 29:9).

God wants us as Christians to give sincerely with the right motives and attitude. When a Christian gives insincerely with a wrong motive and attitude, the Holy Spirit is grieved.  God can only reward a giving that is coming from a sincere heart. Whenever you are giving from insincere motives and attitude, God is aware because no human being can outsmart Him. God told prophet Samuel in 1 Samuel 16:7, “…for the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks from the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” There is no way man can ever outsmart his Creator.

As Christians, God expects us to give sincerely from our heart with reverence, submission, gladness, gratitude and pleasure. Of course, God sees and knows our heart even before we give. The best way we can give sincerely from our heart is to first and foremost give ourselves unto the Lord. No wonder Apostle Paul says in Romans 12:1, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Learn to always give yourself first to God before your substance.

In fact, whatever giving you may offer without offering yourself to God as a living sacrifice; such giving is insincere, selfish and in vain. That was the reason why God rejected Cain’s offering. That is why the Bible further tells us in Genesis 4:7 thus, “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Let your heart always be sincere before God like that of a child when giving your tithe and offerings.

Daily Tip: As a Christian offer your body as a living sacrifice unto the Lord so that your giving will be sincere and honest. Shalom!

Golden Text: So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7).
