Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank. Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them (Numbers 20:11-12).

It pays to obey God’s instruction faithfully. When the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they were seriously thirsty for water and cried to Moses and Aaron. God instructed Moses thus, “Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals” (Numbers 20:8). God’s instruction was very clear; but Moses due to anger disobeyed His instruction by hitting the rock twice with his rod. This singular act of disobedience ended Moses’ ministry abruptly.

In fact, because Moses and Aaron did not hallow God before the children of Israel by obeying His instruction faithfully; God decided to punish them in His own way by denying them the privilege of leading His children to the Promised Land. There is always a repercussion for disobeying God’s instruction. But there is peace, joy and fulfillment when you obey His instruction.

The Bible also tells us the story of the first king of Israel, Saul. God instructed him to go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have: men, women, children, ox, sheep, camel, donkey, and every thing they have; he must not spare anything (1 Samuel 15:3). But King Saul failed to carry out God’s instruction faithfully and spared the good things including the king. Of course because of this singular act, God rejected him as the king of Israel. God said in 1 Samuel 15:22, “…behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.” There is nothing that interest God more than your obedience and faithfulness to His instruction.

Daily Tip: Obeying God’s instruction is a part that leads to the fulfillment of your destiny. Therefore, take God’s instruction seriously and faithfully obey it. Shalom!
